Indian government launches new scheme to help farmers and consumers

The Government of India has taken effective steps to ensure prices of essential food items in view of rising prices of commodities within the Indian market. Under this, the government has focused its attention on making the price of flour cheaper. Union Consumer and Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal on Monday launched a new Bharat Atta scheme named ‘Bharat Atta’ at a concessional rate of Rs 27.50 per kg in New Delhi. The main objective of this scheme is to provide wheat flour at reasonable rates to the poor and weaker sections of the country. Minister Shri Piyush Goyal has started off 100 mobile vans for the sale of wheat flour under the Bharat brand. This flour will be provided at MRP of Rs 27.50 per kg. Retail sale of ‘Bharat’ brand flour will increase supply in the market at reasonable prices. Also, it will help in bringing down the prices of this important food item continuously.


Where to buy Bharat brand wheat flour from? 

It will be provided in 10 kg and 30 kg packets. Also, it will be available at all physical and mobile outlets of Kendriya Bhandar, NAFED and NCCF. Also, it will be extended to the remaining cooperative/retail shops.

What does an open market scheme mean? 

Under the Open Market Sale Scheme [OMSS (D)], 2.5 lakh metric tonnes of wheat will be sold at the rate of Rs 21.50 per kg to semi-government and cooperative organizations i.e. Kendriya Bhandar, NCCF and NAFED for converting it into flour and selling it to the public. On this occasion, Shri Goyal said that due to the intervention of the Central Government, the prices of essential commodities have become stable. He further said that in the past, various steps were taken to reduce the prices of onion and tomato. Apart from this, to provide convenience to the consumers, Bharat Dal is also being provided by the Center at the price of Rs 60 per kg through Kendriya Bhandar, NAFED and NCCF.

In this context, he further said that farmers have also benefited greatly from all these efforts. Shri Goyal said that the produce of farmers is being purchased by the Centre. This has helped stabalize the prices of goods. He said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision is to help the consumers as well as the farmers.

An interim budget will be presented in the Parliament by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on 1 February 2024. It is believed that farmers can get a big gift from this budget. Due to the Lok Sabha elections this year, the full budget will be presented after the formation of the new government. Earlier, during the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the interim budget was presented in 2019. Piyush Goyal, who took over the additional duties of the then Finance Minister Arun Jaitley due to his ill health, had presented the interim budget, along with many major announcements that were also made by the Parliament in the 2019 budget.


The amount of PM Kisan Yojana may increase

PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana was announced in the interim budget of 2019. Under this scheme, an amount of Rs 6000 will be provided annually in three installments to farmers having land up to 2 hectares. More than 12 crore small and marginal farmers were included in this scheme. This amount will be increased to Rs 9000 per year in the budget to be presented in February 2024. It is expected that in the upcoming budget, the installments of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi can be increased, which is no less than a big blessing for the farmers.

Due to this, the amount of Mahila Samman Nidhi may also be doubled by the government. Besides, loans to women will also be provided at a lower rate of 1% compared to others. It is being told that the amount of Samman Nidhi for women farmers can be increased to Rs 12000. Besides, the government can also provide credit card facilities to provide loans to women farmers.


Can also announce health and life insurance for farmers

Given the Lok Sabha elections, the Modi government has asked to increase the amount in the Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme made for the farmers by 50 percent, and health and life insurance for the farmers can also be announced in the budget to be presented in the Parliament.

It is being said in the budget to be presented on February 1, that employees whose income is above Rs 10 lakh can get relief in tax payment. Besides, many businesses and startups are also expected to get exemptions on tax payments. The government can provide great news on the matter of income tax. At present the discussion is that employees earning more than Rs 10 lakh can get relief in tax payment.
