The government is giving subsidies for date cultivation, and farmers can now earn more profits

Under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, the Agriculture Department is providing subsidies to farmers for date cultivation. Under this scheme, 17 districts have been selected which will cultivate dates through offshoot and tissue culture techniques. Under this scheme, a 75% subsidy will be provided to the farmers for cultivating dates. The main objective of this scheme is to encourage farmers to produce various crops. In this context, the Rajasthan government is providing subsidies to the farmers, so that they can produce crops at lower cost. Besides, the government is also providing subsidies for fruits and vegetables.

National Agricultural Development Scheme will be started in Barmer, Churu, Sirohi, Jaisalmer, Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh, Jodhpur, Pali, Jalore, Naugar, Bikaner and Jhunjhunu districts. If a farmer cultivates dates in these districts, he will be provided benefits under this scheme. In this, a 75% subsidy will be provided to the farmers for planting date crops produced through tissue and offshoot technology.

These techniques will be used for date palm cultivation

Tissue culture and offshore technology will be used for date cultivation. In this, farmers will be given a subsidy for farming of 0.5 to 4 hectares. Date palm gardens are prepared from plants grown using these techniques. Farmers will be given a subsidy of Rs 3000 per plant or 75% of the unit cost for planting plants grown using tissue culture technology. If the farmer cultivates dates using the offshore technique, he will get a 75% price of Rs 1100 per plant. Along with the purchase of date palm saplings, a 75% value of Rs 1500 will also be provided for the establishment of date palm roots.

For sowing dates per hectare, farmers will need 8 male plants and 148 female plants. Female varieties of dates include Barahi, Medjool, Khadrabi, Khooneji, Khalas, Sagai and Halawi. Among the male varieties, the subsidy will be provided only for Ghanami and Al in the City.

It costs more than Rs 3.7 lakh to establish a new garden along with Rs 70-75 lakh on planting material by the government. Date crop starts bearing fruits after 3 years of sowing. Around 3000 kg of date crop is produced per hectare. Farmers can easily earn Rs 4.8 lakh from one hectare by selling fresh fruits. After five years, the yield of the date crop increases, and a farmer can get a yield of 10-12 tons per hectare from the date crop. Through the market price, a farmer can earn a net profit of Rs 3.5 lakh per hectare.

Complete information about how farmers can earn more through organic farming

Complete information about how farmers can earn more through organic farming

Organic farming has been a tradition in India for a long time. Our scriptures mention Lord Krishna and Balaram, also known as Gopal and Haladhar, who not only practiced agriculture but also engaged in animal husbandry. This approach was beneficial not only for animals but also for the environment.

The tradition of organic farming continued in India until the time of independence. However, the population explosion later increased the pressure to enhance production, leading the country towards chemical farming. Now, the adverse effects of chemical farming are becoming evident. Let's explore what organic farming is and why farmers should consider it through this article.

Chemical farming is not only harmful but also expensive, leading to an increase in the cost of crop production. Therefore, the country is now turning towards organic farming because it is sustainable, cost-effective, and self-reliant. Let's understand what organic farming is and why farmers should consider it.

The Primary Contribution of Earthworms to Soil Health Improvement

We all know that earthworms found in the soil are highly beneficial for humans. Earthworms in the soil convert the residues of plants and organic matter into nutrient-rich humus by consuming them, which serves as natural fertilizer for plants.

Earthworms play a vital role in improving soil health. They transform organic residues into vermicompost, a nutrient-rich fertilizer that enhances soil fertility. Vermicompost can be produced on a large scale in just two months using earthworms.

The process requires easily available materials such as organic residues, soil, and earthworms. Let's explore how earthworms contribute to making the soil healthy.

Rhizobium also fix atmospheric nitrogen into soil through root nodules

The incorporation of decomposing plant leftovers into the soil during bio-cultivation improves the soil's capacity to retain moisture and increases crop productivity. Because rhizobium bio-cultivation occurs in the roots of leguminous plants, chemical fertilizers are frequently avoided when growing leguminous crops.

Commonly found in the root nodules of leguminous plants, rhizobium helps the soil absorb nitrogen from the atmosphere and becomes more nutrient-rich. But the roots of other crops do not contain rhizobium. Using leguminous plant roots in other crops is one way to overcome the nitrogen deficiency in crops.

This contributes to meeting the nitrogen needs of leguminous crops, which makes bio-cultivation a viable and efficient technique for enhancing soil fertility and raising agricultural yields.

Organic methods of pests and diseases control

The excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in agriculture is leading to increased diseases and costs. Adopting organic farming can reduce costs and mitigate diseases. For this, farmers need to produce homemade organic fertilizers and natural pesticides instead of using chemicals.

Farmers should be aware of the process of preparing manure and pesticides at home. Therefore, farmers have developed the process of making liquid organic fertilizer from cow dung, jaggery and cow urine, Which is explained in our other article (Methods of preparing organic fertilizers and natural pesticides).

Organic fertilizer are rich in nutrients

Crop productivity depends on the quantity of nutrients in the soil. When there is a deficiency of nutrients in the soil, it needs to be supplemented from external sources. While these nutrients can be easily obtained in chemical form, the cost of production becomes higher.

Therefore, it is advisable to use natural manure. Understanding the levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium and other nutrients in organic fertilizers is crucial. That is why farmers have brought information on nutrient content in all manures.

Organic certification is mandatory For Organic Farming

Farmers should be registered for organic farming to ensure good prices for crops and fruits. The central government has initiated the certification of organic farming. For this purpose, a government institution has been established in the state.

Private institutions across the country have also been involved. With regulations, this institution provides organic certification to any farmer

How to Get organic certification

If a farmer practices organic farming or tries to do so, he should get organic certification because not having certification results in lower crop prices for the farmer. Without proper documentation indicating whether the crop is organic or conventional, farmers face challenges in selling their produce at a fair value. Recognizing this issue, the agriculture department has provided complete information about organic certification. Farmers can register one hectare by spending Rs. 1400.

In conclusion, adopting organic farming methods is critical to the health of the ecosystem and sustainable agriculture. In addition to minimizing the use of artificial chemicals, organic farming preserves biodiversity and improves soil health. Farmers lessen the ecological footprint of agriculture and support healthier ecosystems by using natural and organic inputs. Furthermore, by preventing the residues of dangerous pesticides and artificial fertilizers in produce, organic farming improves food safety. All things considered, the importance of organic farming rests in its all-encompassing strategy, which puts the health of the earth, farmers, and customers first.

The air of many cities has become poisonous due to increasing cases of stubble burning.

The air of many cities has become poisonous due to increasing cases of stubble burning.

As you know, currently the paddy harvesting season is going on. Every year the governments of Punjab and Haryana talk about imposing strictness on farmers and stopping them from burning stubble. But, in reality, farmers are continuously busy burning stubble. For this reason, due to the pollution being spread due to stubble burning, the AQI i.e. Air Quality Index of Delhi-NCR is continuously increasing towards dangerous levels. Like previous years, the threat of stubble has started increasing in the states of Punjab and Haryana this year too. Let us tell you that despite the strictness of the governments of both the states, farmers are seen burning stubble in the open fields. The smoke rising due to stubble burning is proving fatal for the breathing of the people of Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi-NCR. The monitoring done by CPCB in Delhi-NCR has reported an average AQI of 263. Because of this, people are at risk of serious diseases.

Stubble is being continuously set on fire in the states of Punjab and Haryana. As the paddy harvesting season is progressing, the cases of stubble burning are also increasing continuously. Due to the smoke and pollution generated by stubble burning, the AQI of many cities of Haryana including Delhi-NCR has reached very poor levels.

Stubble is being burnt without fear in Punjab

Even though it is being claimed that the cases of stubble burning are decreasing in the state of Punjab, the process of openly burning stubble is also continuing. In Derabassi around Chandigarh, stubble was seen burning openly on the side of the highway. Today, if you pass through any national highway in Punjab and Haryana, you will see burnt-black fields on the side of the road. Where the stubble will be seen completely reduced to ashes, farmers cleverly set fire to the stubble in their fields and then leave their fields, so that no legal action can be taken against them.

Also read: Haryana government plans to save environment from residues like stubble etc.

In Haryana, conscious farmers are managing stubble properly.

For your information, let us tell you that there are farmers who believe in managing the stubble instead of burning it. In Naggal village of Panchkula, farmers were seen using the stubble as fertilizer in the fields and directly sowing wheat seeds through a Super Seeder machine. These farmers say that the farmers who can buy expensive machines are the ones who manage the stubble. But, small and marginal farmers have no option other than burning the stubble.

What complaints do farmers have against the government?

In Mankaiya village of Panchkula, some farmers are making heaps of stubble after traditionally harvesting the paddy crop. But, they also complain that instead of employing laborers, they are managing the stubble to burn it. But, they have neither received any assistance nor been given any kind of grant from the government. They have to manage the stubble at their own expense.

Cases have decreased significantly from before

There has been a decline in the cases of stubble burning in Punjab this year as compared to last year. So far, incidents of stubble burning have been reported at 1764 places in the state. These figures are the lowest in the last 2 years. In the same period, 4327 cases were registered so far in 2021 and 3114 cases in 2022. If we talk about Haryana state, 714 cases of stubble burning have been reported this season. However, if compared to last year, 893 cases had been reported so far last year. If the government of Haryana-Punjab states makes the farmers fully aware and provides them resources, then the challenge of stubble can be rid of. Let us tell you that the recorded AQI of some cities of Haryana is frightening. 255 air quality index was recorded in Karnal-243, Rohtak-182, Jind-155, Faridabad-322, Bahadurgarh-284, Kaithal-269, Kurukshetra-256 and Gurugram.

Actually, this information was given by the central minister of India, Anurag Thakur in a cabinet meeting to the media. With the sowing of rabi crops, it is a big challenge for farmers to fulfil the needs of fertilisers.
