Swaraj Tractors, a part of the Mahindra Group, on Monday said it has invested Rs 200 crore to develop a new range of tractors in the 40-50 HP category to meet the growing needs of farmers. The company says the new products will eventually replace its existing tractors in this category.

New tractor models will be state-of-the-art

Harish Chavan, CEO, of Swaraj Division, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), says the new products have been developed to meet the demands of modern agriculture. He said, “The new range comes with a different set of new features, agricultural applications. We want to be the future and that is why we are introducing new tractors.”

When asked to elaborate on the new tractors, Chavan said, it has a wide market range from low-feature trims to variants with high-end features like four-wheel drive to meet different requirements. Talking about the company's investment in developing the new tractors, Chavan said, "We have invested around Rs 200 crore on the project."

What has Chavan said about this

The 40-50 HP segment accounts for around 50 percent of sales in the domestic tractor industry. Swaraj manufactures tractors from its two manufacturing plants in Mohali, Punjab. “A third plant is also under construction,” Chavan said. It is likely to arrive by the third quarter of this year. We will commission it in the fourth quarter. The plant is in the final stages of implementation.” The new tractor range is priced at Rs 6.9 lakh for the base variant (42 HP) and goes up to Rs 9.95 lakh for the 50 HP top-end model.

Mahindra Company's most tractors are sold in India

Mahindra & Mahindra sells the most tractors every month in India. Last month, i.e. the sales report of September 2023, Mahindra & Mahindra sold 12,600 tractors last month. This is followed by the Swaraj Division of Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, which sold 9,853 tractors. At number three is International Tractors Limited, which sold 7065 tractors. The fourth place is Tafe Limited, with 6862 tractors sold last month. At number five is Escorts Limited, with 5826 tractors sold in September.

Tractors of these companies are also preferred in large numbers.

John Deere Private Limited is sixth in the top 10 list of companies selling the most tractors, which sold 3792 tractors last month. After this, Eicher tractors ranked and sold 3745 units. CNH Industrial Private Limited was at number eight, which sold 1903 tractors. After this, Kubota Agricultural Machinery India Private Limited sold 918 units and VST Tillers Tractors Limited 279 tractors. After the top 10, the forces were a number of Motors, Gromax and other companies.
